Buckriders by Roger P. Cals

I really love this book. It is FUN, has tension, history, mystery and heartbreak all rolled in into one hell of a imaginative story, but it is anything but a "period piece".

It's about a teen, but it's not a childrens book, don't even for a second think that, because it has some intense scenes in it (nothing video games are not worse at) so I would say, unless you faint when you have a papercut... go for it. :-)

Like I said, the book is about a teenager. He's uprooted by his dad's promotion and moved from Amsterdam to Brunssum. A culture shock when you want to make the move, if you're a teen it's earth-shattering. Needles to say, Koen has a hard time adjusting, but in the course of the story he loves it, hates it and wants to run away form it all. He has  the usual teen-parent dialogs, befriends a local boy that helps him adjust, learns things about his ancestry, but mainly the story has a twist, I SO want to talk to you about! Problem is, if I were to talk about it, I would give away the best part..... So, nope, not doing it. Just prepare yourself for not wanting to get up before you have read that last sentence....  I enjoyed the crap out of this one!

It's available in both it's original language (Dutch) and English. It only comes in paperback, no e-book, but believe me... you will carry it with you untill you're done with it, anyway.

PS: I have to disclose that  I received this as the ultimate  ARC. I did the translation of it, but afterwards, I left it for a couple of days, and set down with it, like I would any other book, and I noticed that reading while translating, however enjoyable, didn't hold a candle to picking it back up and reading it as a whole, not parts....  This one is definitely going on my "READ AGAIN-pile"!
