So yeah, I read xrated books, but very seldom review them. In general they're fun, sometimes I feel like a puppy tilting it's head trying to understand, but... still fun to read. Well, a lot of them are, some are just scenes put together for shockvalue, and usually within one chapter I loose intrest, and they get deleted. This usually happens to the 40 page wonders – because who is able to put hot scenes and a story together in that amount of space, so usually the story part gets sidestepped.
NOT this one though. It's a perfect balance of intense everything, humor (some subtle, some not) and inventivenes, wrapped in very well puttogether words :-)
Not my first book by this author, but I think one of the better figured out ones. Some of the character's dialogues are funny but ratio of funny/serious is well balanced throughout the book. There's action, tension, intrigue and brotherly interactions galore, and under/through all that, is a well written, cohesive story being told. It's the first of a series, and that series will definitely make it – in it's entirity – onto my e-reader, but only for lack of funds to buy the paperbacks. There's the main character, the Prince, falling in love with a human and all the ways he has to fenagle things to ease her into the fact he's not quite what she believes him to be, and how this will impact her life. Then, there's the court intrigue... Did I mention he was a prince? :-) There's the bond he has with a childhood friend that has lasted several thousand years (Who can make a claim like that?) and his day job of basically head of security for his brother, the king. Oh, and there's the talks they have back and forth, in their minds, showing just how brothersly love works.... But don't take my word for it. Go check it out.
If I had to indicate one thing in the book that I couldn't get my head around, it was the choice of motorcycle the prince has; A Ducati TestaTretta. Really!? That bike is plumb ugly :-) Technological amazing, but still ugly although, that has nothing to do with the story, the writing or the enjoyment of reading it, so disregard...... Having a love for cars, mostly old ones, and a curiosity of what the vehicles are that are mentioned in books, makes for a lot of fun, outside of reading :-) I can get lost, really lost, on websites looking at different variations of vehicles mentioned in the book I'm reading. Don't know if that's "normal", but for me? Yup! Curious minds are a trap :-)
